Despite the reputation afforded to Free To Play games, I have to admit to having something of a soft spot for Sony’s Fat Princess: Piece Of Cake. It brought a fun and strategic twist to the match three genre and, despite arriving on the Vita some time after its mobile counterparts, proved to be a worthy download. However, once again it’s proving why F2P is a minefield when it comes to money as Sony Interactive Entertainment are bringing the game to a premature end on 1st January 2017 as they informed gamers in an email today…
From that date, all of the game’s online features will no longer be available including the ability to spend the in game currency on items (including any that you may have purchased with real money). In the build up to this, Sony have already disabled the in-app purchase element of the game to ensure that players don’t spend any further money on the title.
More disappointingly is that the game will disappear from the PSN Store completely from 1st January 2017 as well. You will still be able to play the game offline, but unless you have backed it up to your PC or PS3 using Content Manager if you delete it after this point, it will be lost from your account for good!
It’s sad to see that Sony have made no mention of this in their official blog today. We rarely see any good news relating to the Vita from Sony these days so it’s not surprising that they won’t announce any bad news.
For those of you who did / do play the game, what did you think of it? Let us know in the comments below.
